Yes go out with friends you and him can make up for it later by celebrate your birthday with him on another day off with him.! I don't always celebrate my birthday on the same day especially when I work and I am a busy parent. He can at least call you to wish you happy birthday. then you celebrate later. Even if he takes you to lunch or dinner give you a birthday greeting card and order wine you both share a desert. you both just enjoy each other. Both of you can even celebrate at your home you both cook dinner with each other bake a small cake watch a movie spend time together just the two of you.
