If there was a big gap in income levels that these two people were raised in- some of these patterns might be a surprise/concern for one of the partners without the context. I would say that growing up with financial insecurity is a trauma- I would never say it was a moral failing. Our society is literally built around exploiting people and keeping a huge chunk of our population living at or near their financial limits. This is hugely destabilizing for our mental health and well-being. Taking care of those aspects of our life as best we can is an act of resistance and bravery and self love.
