You're not weird, imo. I've done for my good friends the same thing. One after birth of her daughter, I cooked for the family (and packaged them) and dropped them by their house so the husband and kids can just heat up the food (her family and his family are abroad, so they couldn't come and help). Another one was during grieving process. I did it because they're my friends and I care about them… I kind of don't understand your bf's thought process at all, tbh.
