Meh…like 75% of the adult population has some sort of herpes. Plus, most people believe that it’s only really transmittable when you’re having a breakout, so even if she was wrong in that belief, I don’t think she was being malicious.

I don’t see that much different than someone saying they prefer blond hair or an Australian accent. Its okay to have preferences in who you date and it’s probably biologically encoded to be curious about people who aren’t similar to you.
Sounds like the relationship is over either way. If he’s a good guy, has been kind and you care about him as a person the least you could do is finish out the next 60 days. That’s just my opinion.
If he has an issue with alcoholism (?) he will not be able to quit on his own. If he cannot quit on his own, AA would be a good option and meetings cost nothing or very little, usually free will donation. You may want to start going to Al Anon meetings. It may help you deal with this. That being said, are “the boys,” your cats? If they are children, I would not put them into the equation other than saying it’s not healthy for them to be around someone who uses alcohol to excess so frequently. Maybe consider couple’s counseling if you really want to make this relationship work? Best of luck.
This is very helpful and, I think, a great approach. I’ve been struggling with how best to approach this with her and diving head first into my concerns about their mutual attraction would be off putting. I’m absolutely in favor of working on ways we can strengthen our relationship and we’ve agreed to start work with a couples therapist in addition to the work we’re doing on our own. I’m curious- Part of me (likely the insecure part) would like to acknowledge the perceived attraction as it has made me feel uncomfortable. Do you think there’s room to do so, if not initially, then at some point in our discussions? Maybe in a safe environment with a therapist to offer guidance? I’m not trying to accuse her of anything malicious, but I think it would help to have that acknowledged and heard. Thank you again for your thoughtful response!
