The court system WILL make sure his kid is taken care of; trusting the words of a man like this is a lost cause. At the very least he hasn't shown himself to be someone who skips out on child support YET.

Squeezing him of a significant portion of his assets seems like perfect revenge porn but I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt this will come to fruition. And it's honestly arguable whether financial ruin is the correct “punishment” for the way he treated his wife. At the very least, the courts don't seem to think so.
It seems you're fixated on OP's wife “winning” this situation while I'm talking about how realistically any of this comes to fruition, as the kid in this situation. You're basically hoping for a miracle. Those don't happen unfortunately. And as the kid all grown up now it made any success I had more valuable since I've been able to cleanly cut any ties with him other than the very bare minimum mandated when I was young.

I would also consider though, that this a tough subject to not have come to the surface in your friend group. Even if he hadn't done it in front of you, it was bound to filter down to you in a roundabout way.
It's a tough expectation to set to A) give the okay to date your ex and to B) expect to hear nothing about it. He should've done a better job keeping it to a minimum though.
