I would guess that the answer is that you haven't been able to find a good compromise on this issue that doesn't leave one or both of you dissatisfied.

Don't act condescending about how this is clearly not a significant issue, while also asking for advice about how to solve your significant issue.

No one can online your life for you. By that I mean, no one can step in and be your spine. If you don't stand up for yourself, you will have to learn to be happy with the decisions other people make for you. If you don't want to spend your entire life living other people's decisions, start standing up for yourself.
