SIL brought her GF over hoping for love and acceptance. Parents yelled at and berated her in front of the entire family(being surprised by something isn't an excuse for hateful behavior). Husband did nothing to stand up for his sister, or his wife when his parents started into her. Husband SHRUGGED when asked if he would be okay with one of his children being gay.

I agree with everything about how this was handled except for you yelling at Steven about his reaction to the texts. He almost guaranteed thought she was drunk and stupid and told her they’d talk about the next day and to delete the texts because he knew she’d have forgotten them and he didn’t want anyone destroying any friendships or relationships over someone being drunk and stupid and saying something they shouldn’t have. I have literally done the same thing in almost the exact same situation (and the people in question are happily married, have been for years). Aside from that, though, things seem like they were handled with about as much grace and all as could be expected.
