1. It's only a joke if both people involved are laughing. If one isn't, it is an insult or thinly veiled jab. I would definitely sit her down and make her explain her comment. I've been with my wife 40+ years and there are some things we don't joke about. Divorce is one of them.

   Genetically speaking even though this is a bad analogy it’s easy to understand. (Very rough, it’s late and my maths isn’t the best, so if anyone has better understanding please feel free to correct me)

   Your grandfather makes up an eighth of your DNA, and the same for your GF, the corresponding DNA strands that the brothers have will be slightly different unless they are twins, so it isn’t even the same eighth that you have in common. But say it is, so that means any child you have together 1/16 of the genes would be the same meaning that there will be a slightly higher chance of something being wrong (a disorder, disease, etc) but not much higher than the norm.

   The problem comes if there was other cousins with cousins (or closer) in the family tree in a direct line, as then things start to multiply.
