i'm 56 now so maybe my perspective is different. my first wife, is still friends with my cousin, and at least one of my aunts, and my mom. She and I haven't spoken in years, although I do wonder how she's doing (our breakup was amicable). Contacting her would be awkward and might bring up questions I don't care to get mixed up in, so she stays distant.
My second wife was more disruptive, she's on the opposite coast, we occasionally exchange email. I've done things like try to help her find medical insurance. My mom is actually afraid of her.
My current partner works with her ex husband. I've never had reason to doubt her sincerity. I don't care for the man much, but he's a reliable employee for her and well… i am a bit biased.
Is that “Normal?” … I really don't know, but the red flag for me is someone trying to isolate an individual from their support structure, even if that support structure is an ex. If you cannot trust your partner around their ex, then I'm not so sure you really trust them at all.
