  1. Thatโ€™s better than if she has a thing for the husband. The situation was awkward the moment the toys were unwrapped. The other mutual friend was probably wondering wtf was going on.

  2. He has everything he needs, why would he change? I think it's time for this bum to find someone else to milk dry.

  3. At the end of the day, you should only do what you're comfortable with. If using pet names feels forced, then it feels forced.

The important thing here is to look at the big picture. If you not verbalizing pet names is just another symptom of a larger problem, then pet names isn't the issue which makes them irrelevant and you're focusing on the wrong thing.

If, however, everything is legitimately great, you show/tell him you love him where it's logically not in doubt, but the only hang up is you can't verbalize pet names? That'd be just creating an issue where one logically doesn't exist.

To back up and tell you about me, I'm a guy and I'm happily married. My wife and I have at least used “babe” among others probably since we established how serious we were. The reason I tell you this is so that you understand I'm not coming at this with an inherent bias not giving a shit about pet names. I like them and I use them. But we use them because they came and come out naturally. We're not even thinking about it.

So like I similarly said at the beginning, do what feels natural. You've been together a year and a half. If an issue exists, it's not due to pet names. Good luck.
