What works for other or what’s healthy for other may not be for you or your relationship! Me 21F and my boyfriend 23M have an infrequent sex life as well. Sometimes it’ll be daily. Others once a week or even spaced out a month. We’re both happy an fine with our sex life and try to show intimacy other ways! Don’t worry about what others do, you guys seem to be doing great in your relationship already! (:
I dunno. I talk to one of my guy friends most days of the week. Never dated him, there’s nothing like that. He just happens to be one of the few people I know who understand my field of work and most of our calls are career related or about his new ADHD diagnosis or a new dish one of us has made and want to share. We can get on a roll and talk for an hour a day if I have a big enough gap in meetings.
I talk to one of my GFs pretty much every day for a bit.
Most of my close friends don’t live! nearby so it’s not like we can meet up for coffee or drinks without a 3+ hour drive (I’ve moved a lot and travel a lot for work so meet people all over.)
It wouldn’t occur to me to tell my partner that I talked to x, y, z people each day unless there was something that pertained to him like “hey, I was talking to mark today and he made this new dish. Does this sound good to you? I’m thinking of trying it next week.” Or “hey, Sam is having a rough day. We talked earlier but I had to get off the call so in need to call her back after dinner.”
I dunno. Both my partner and I have secure attachment styles and trust each other so it’s just never been an issue.
That said, the way I found out my ex husband was cheating was when I was paying cell phone bills. I was checking the data use to see if I needed to change plans as the kids would sometimes go over. Happened to see 900+ texts to the same number in the first 11 days of the month. On my husband’s line. I called the number. He was having an affair with a man. There had been a bunch of other shady things that he denied but he couldn’t deny that.
So…I dunno. I think sometimes people call a friendship an emotional affair when it’s with a gender they’re attracted to but if it’s not a gender they’re attracted to, the same convo would just be viewed as a chat with a friend.
