In my experience it's not just one thing, it's little things that might be nude to articulate like being more protective of their phone than usual, and then you have a bigger thing like this to tie it all together. If anything, I'd bet he was suspicious enough to go looking and is lying about how accidental the discovery of the lingerie was.
