In general- we (humans) have an easy time acting on instinct, and it takes extra effort to think about how other people are feeling. So in a good relationship, communicating how you feel (NOT as a confrontation) should be a habit both partners do on the regular. Communicating your feelings (and more important, listening to what the other person says and thinking rather than just reacting) are invaluable skills for maintaining a healthy relationship, and should become a part of your daily life.
Most people don't figure this out until their 30s/40s. So if you guys can make a good habit of it, that puts you ahead of the pack.
