He did not accuse you of anything he removed a doubt from his mind in a way that should not have stressed you out. Honestly the jealousy issues seem more like a red flag to me than his age, though the fact that as a 50 something year old man he did pursue a young woman like yourself makes me sus. Also just because he is the best guy you’ve been with doesn’t make him the greatest man in all history. I would be wary because if six months in he’s already jealous it may get worse as time goes on. You are not his emotional support animal, and he’s old enough to be able to handle his emotional issues like an adult, not take them out on you. If you ever get the sense he’s making his emotions your responsibility or leaning on you to validate him constantly then I would leave and never look back.
I see no harm in telling him now how you feel about him. I would cloak it with, “I realize you're probably not ready for any kind of relationship right now, but if I never let you know I felt this way, I'd always regret it. I hope this doesn't harm our friendship because you mean a great deal to me as my best friend.”
