You’re a fool. He dumped you for the person he told you not to worry about, but comes running back after they break up? He sounds like someone who doesn’t know how to/want to be alone.
My issue isn’t with him not wanting to go to the races, why is he putting you down so much? Why is he being a fun ruiner for you? He doesn’t have to show up to a 5k at 8am with you, but he needs to shut the fuck up about how “pointless” races are… he is also wrong. Races provide structured motivating points for runners to work towards during their workouts to keep them going during the days they don’t have races, it’s literally the easiest thing, psychologically, to understand why people run road races for fun and the fact that he doesn’t even bother to try to understand it would be a problem for me.
I like running. I like having regular check-ins in the form of races to keep me accountable and to formally show my progress since I am a hobbyist and don’t really track my runs so seriously. I like the camaraderie of the race environment and I like the tshirts for the race. None of this is beyond comprehension for the average person, so I’d question why it is for him. Is this even about running for him? Or is it about YOU having an exclusive interest for yourself and him being salty, jealous, mad he is not “getting anything out of it” because he truly does not see supporting you or your goals as “wins” for him.
After writing the title you should have thought to yourself “hold on ….what the fuck am I doing with this guy”
She made a decision which sounds pretty final. You gotta respect that. At some point it will just be harassing her and that’s guaranteed to push anyone away. Enjoy the relationship for what it was in addition to being a learning opportunity.
