Suppose the reality is that the girl sent out a “Happy New Year” meme to every single person in their contact list at 1am. On any given NYE I get random messages from lots of people at all kinda of hours. Suppose the frequency of messages has been vastly overestimated by OP.

I don't really understand why people are against OP. Sure he may have been a little crass but I feel like if you were working hot for something, say you've been talking about doing something and have spent a whole year saving for it only for someone to “gift” you it. I'd be appreciative but it would also knock the wind out from under me and probably make me feel like everything I just did was for nothing. I struggled all this time for someone to just simply hand it to me instead. Sure I've still got the money there but that wasn't the point.
I actually like them for the most part. They're not bad people when we see them every month or so they're just overbearing. I know for a fact I never want to live! with them though. It is a dealbreaker for me and I told her that and we just had a big fight with no conclusion. I just dont know at what point do I stop trying to change her mind and just accept that the relationship is now incompatible. It really sucks
