I totally agree about the lawyer. You might also do some snooping and try to find out if he's opened up credit cards and is maxing them out. Has he taken out any home equity loans that you aren't aware of? Where is the IRS refund check going? Things like that.
I would not ask my partner to stop hanging out with a specific person. I would voice my concerns to my partner, point out what I've noticed, and see how he handles it. I would then base my next actions on how he handles it (whether I stay or not).
You've only been dating for 7 months. You don't really get to make requests for him to cut off friends. You can discuss your insecurities and fears with him, though.
