Just be sure he'll do the same for you. Personally I would opt out right now. It's hard enough just being from a different culture than your partner, or MIL, but when it's like this from the start? Not so much. If she does disown him, he may hold that against you for the rest of your relationship.

This is great advice, thank you. I'm a very anxious person about much smaller things than marriage, so therapy is a good idea.
If it makes you uncomfortable then tell her that you appreciate that she's giving you a compliment but you would prefer different words.
Someone on here said It makes me look desperate if I'm the one paying for it but I don't see how.
