Likely, this person can't afford that. If she weren't in OP's life, she wouldn't be going out this often. She wouldn't be buying her own groceries, she'd be eating whatever stuff is lying around in her dad's fridge and going to class, because that's where she's at right now.
Yeah I agree, it would be nice if she occasionally said “I'll buy the drinks”. That's why I date adults with full time jobs. But if you're dating a student, you have to be cognizant of their budget.

Correct. I've been working for at least 6 different locations in my life and not only have I never had a work spouse, I have never seen anyone be described as a work spouse.
I think it's just one of those polite things people do to point out an inappropriate work relationship in a bantering sort of way.
