You’re taking what I say and making it sound way more negative than what I’m saying. I didn’t mean that I won’t see my son or his child often or that I don’t want to spend plenty of time with them. It’s just how often are typical grandparents supposed to see their grandchildren? My son and DIL definitely don’t need me and my wife hovering over them at their house every other day. I’m in touch with my son every day, we text all the time and I do see him on a regular basis but I’m still sort of confused about the grandparent time thing.
I don’t feel my wife and I are offering less support than “typical” grandparents, we just aren’t going to be the “call to watch the kid during the middle of the weekday” retired sort of grandparents. We can be the babysit on a weeknight or weekend so parents can go on a date grandparents.
Important to remember that our parents are only in their late 60s right now and still very active and capable.
I'm not okay with it, but she doesn't believe me and I can't convince her.
