Exactly. If this was happening to me, and men were talking to me and ignoring my man while he was right next to me, I would just start ignoring them. Giving one word answers. Turn to my guy and talk to HIM. Give HIM my attention. Hold his hand, touch his arm. Make a very obvious show that he is my priority.
Now if men were just being truly friendly and talking to BOTH of us, then I wouldn’t do all of that.
And you can tell. You can tell when someone is interested in friendly conversation, and when someone is trying to get YOUR notice, even though you are taken.

Tell him in person, and do NOT mention anything through text, or a phone call email etc etc. The wife might be monitoring and that could impact his ability to form a good legal case.
Just say you want to catch up over lunch or something one day, business as usual. I wouldn't drop this news in the restaurant or another public place though. You never know what kind of reaction he may have and he might want privacy.
Tell him you need to talk privately at some point next time you see him (completely out of any of the presence of the wife or anyone else).

I don't believe that's the case. There are various ways you can prove that you are, or were, in a relationship. Such as having joint accounts (bank, vehicles, phones, rental properties etc). The burden would then be on the other person to prove that a relation ship did not exist.
Or OP slept with best friend in the past, fiance finds out, fiance is upset they've been “best friends” after that and he didn't know that happened in the past.
