You & Rose are in a different stage of life. You don't even live! together yet. You haven't graduated yet. And it sounds like getting engaged wasn't a discussion it was pressure your gf brought on you out of nowhere. If you genuinely want to be married and want to marry Rose, than sit down with Rose and tell her your timeline. That you'd prefer a proposal to come after you've graduated, after you have a job and after you two already live! together. Maybe you two can come to a compromise. Like this year your big thing will be moving in after graduation and getting graduate jobs. Maybe next year it's a proposal.
