Here's my usual take on situations like this.
When partner A says xyz is important to me (reasonable request) and Partner B makes excuses, ignores and continues the behavior it says a lot about how little they respect and value their partner.
You're not asking him to never fart again You're asking him to not fart during inappropriate moments and he can control it just doesn't think you're very deserving of that respect. It has nothing to do with comfort at all.
