I think I understand your anxieties and I also understand your bfs desire to be in a group like Freemasons. Maybe some sort of compromise like you two joining a church you both agree on and becoming active in their social and charitable work? One of your problems seems to be incompatibility with Christianity. I can't talk on details as I don't know about the Freemasons, but I do know that Christians will welcome you and that there are less politically conservative, more liberal churches.

It's totally understandable that right now you're unhappy, anxious and (I get the impression) embarrassed by how your life has collapsed in on itself recently. As such, I can see why you'd be sensitive – possibly over-sensitive – to what's happened here. But you've worked your ass off and are continuing to work your ass off to put yourself back on track and now you've got light at the end of the tunnel. You did that. That's on you. Light that candle. Do whatever people do with soap in these days of body wash and shower gel. Wash your hair! Enjoy starting to feel like you again. Be less concerned about what you think your boyfriend might think and focus on your achievement – don't ignore the hope you've created for yourself, let yourself enjoy it. You've made a new start.
