I want to add a little more context to my relationship with my SOs family.
We lived down the street from them for just over a year. In that year, we saw them very regularly. Basically, every day. But they never showed any interest in spending any time with our daughter unless it was to make themselves look good (IMO)
We had our daughter in 2019, and we lived in the city they both worked in. They would come and see us on their way home from work, but SOs mom lost her job in 2020, and SOs dad transferred elsewhere. After that, they whined and moaned that we never brought our daughter around as we lived out of the way and couldn't come and see us or our daughter.
Then, in the summer of 2021, we moved down the street from them. Like I said, they saw our daughter a lot, but never really cared to watch her. We would set up date nights to try to go out, and day of, SOs mom would bail, so we would have to drive an hour north so that my family could watch our daughter, or we would have to cancel our plans. My SOs mom always complained about having to watch our daughter (which we rarely asked her to do).
We moved away in September, and after we moved, my SOs mom has watched my SOs brothers' kids almost every weekend since then. This has really upset my SO on multiple occasions, as he feels it's clear they don't care much for our daughter.
Christmas this year, SOs mom texts my SO and lets us know that we need to be at her house “no later than 1” for Christmas dinner. Also, SOs brother does not celebrate Christmas still.
