you’re not bashing, judging or controlling her at all, but you want her to be healthy, and frankly— she isn’t.
I think the drunk driving was on the way TO the restaurant – it's at the beginning of the story which is basically chronological and she later says he refused to give her a ride home. Much easier to miss his drunken state if she was picked up and I'm assuming he sobered up over after eating and spending time at the restaurant.
Given the ages everyone is I'm surprised as their behaviour seems more like that of teenagers than folks nearly in their 30's, but I guess we've all come to learn age doesn't mean a lot at times.
