This sounds pretty similar to what happened to my ex and I. I was 18/19 and he was 24/25 while we dated. He shut down and everytime I tried to talk to him he got passive aggreively angry with me. It was awful.
But anytime we were around other people, his family, our mutual friends, even my parents, he would talk a lot and make jokes and be a charming guy.
But around me, he was dead silent and everything was always tense between us.
I broke up with him after several months of this. Because we had no communciation. I'm much much happier now. And realized I was in a neglectful and emotionally abusive relationship.
I suggest you do the same cuz he sounds not fun to be around.
As other people said too, the age gap does make things nude. I'm 20 now and even 18 yr Olds look really young to me and I couldn't imagine wanting to be with them. So imagine being 27 and wanted that.
