I do suspect that sooner or later something like this would have happened. When it happens while someone else is in charge, it is easy to blame that person. I don't think it is reasonable to think that you can constantly keep two dogs that fight apart for years and years. So perhaps that was your mistake.
Your best friend is not really to blame. Yes, she clearly underestimated the problem and this was in part a cause of the fight. But again, it could have gone the other way where the dogs don't fight. She didn't really know them that well and was unable to imagine how bad it could get.
So sorry again. But please don't blame your friend. I bet she feels terribly guilty about it. Forgive her. Just let it go and accept that it was meant to be that way. It was in neither your control nor that of your friend. Dogs fight and sometimes, as a result, dogs die.

You do know that communication skills, including those used in relationships, can be taught? That’s what couples counseling does. Once they get past why she cries and accuses him of being ready to dump her, hopefully they can have some meaningful dialogue. And that includes communicating about sex.
