Just live frugally for now until his and your career is in a better place. If he makes more than you and is better at managing money than you, defer to him and don’t argue. Avoid all frivolous spending and cut back on your expensive habits for the time being if that’s necessary. Once you’ve made it through the current crisis you can start spending more on luxuries but you might have to cut back your standard of living for the time being.

If you decide you need to work on your physical health (go to the gym, eating good food etc), at a certain point you may need to acknowledge that the burrito bowl you get for lunch everyday, even though it’s not bad for you (in comparison to a Big Mac, large fries & coke), still isn’t good for you. No matter what substitutes you make, unless the restaurant makes changes, that’s the best you are going to get.
