I've slipped 3 disc's in my life and there is no way I could clean or watch kids for a few days after. He shouldn't have volunteered for sure.
When you weigh out responsibilities make sure you credit him the 20+ hours of mandatory overtime as housework as he has no control over it and it is more hours than you are working.
