4. It's not just the debt, it's the choices. Is she stupid??? All that for an undergrad? I'm just about to get out of my undergrad with zero debt (scholarships) and most people I know have taken no more than 20k in loans for undergrad. I don't even intend to need to take out anywhere near that much for law school so what in the world was she thinking???

5. While I agree that here she didn’t make the right decision, that doesn’t mean the choice of taking on that kind of debt is always bad. I took a similar amount of debt for law school (paid undergrad out of pocket). My friends who went to medical school took on debt even higher than mine. We now have jobs with high earning potential. I think in that circumstance it’s fine to take on high debt, but for undergrad that’s a ridiculous amount given the earning potential. The cost-benefit analysis clearly wasn’t considered.
