Why is more than one baby shower considered tacky? I'm in Texas, and while I adamantly refused to have a baby shower myself, everyone I know who has had kids have had one or more baby showers themselves. Some families go crazy over baby showers. They're kinda annoying, but they treat it as more a celebration of the whole family getting together to celebrate new life. It's less about baby presents and more about welcoming a partner to the family. If that's the type of shower they're wanting, caving and letting them celebrate your pregnancy is probably the easiest way to keep the peace.
My reasoning for telling him is what others have said, he had a hand in the creation, he may want to know.
