I think the best way is for you to decide what your next step is. He has made it very clear that he does not intend to work, or increase his income even if he hasnt “admitted it”. If you can accept that his current income is still an income regardless of the source, are you happy to remain with someone that isnt going to increase or develop their income in the near future, or at all?
An inheritance would come to him independantly of his “job”. If he had made a good career for himself there could be the career income PLUS the inheritance income. He's relying purely on inheritance here now. Is it guaranteed? What happens if his parent live until they are 95yo
Personal development? Friends? Social circles? New ideas, exposure to interesting things? Who is he going to talk to?
Alternatively, I guess you could ask him to set some goals and some timeframes for reaching these goals.
