Honestly it is a bit stressful for me when my partner starts something with “I love you, but,” or “I miss you, but,” because it feels like I’m being prepared for bad news, that first sentence just makes my heart drop. I think it’s more productive to say things like, “hey I’m busy w/ ___, I can’t see you till __ (or whenever). I love you so much, can’t wait to see you, etc.” and maybe offer to call tonight if you want. Obviously not this exact prompt, but try to communicate directly first then add emotional language, I think that makes for effective communication in all parts of life.
Though, if this laps in communication led to a multi-day fight (which it sounds like it did) then that’s excessive. Also, I am confused about her not knowing about the wedding. How long have you been together? My partner knows if there’s a wedding I’m going to well in advance.
