I think her reaction is based on fear. I am like your partner, too. When my husband has to go to our home country for holidays, I feel so sad and anxious. The first time he went, he went for 3 weeks and I cried for 1 month leading to it and the whole 3 weeks.
The second time he had to go, I was not sad because I got used to him being away once a year.
It is unrealistic that your partner expects you to quit your job. Just tell her you will be away for 5 days and there will be no discussion about it because it is your job not hers.
