2 people (who apparently know you very well) decided to not tell you about it because they knew how you would react to it. When you find out, you react exactly how these 2 people (who apparently know you very well) thought you would which is why they didn't want to tell you in the first place.
They were more than likely looking out for you. They kept it from you for a reason and likely it was to avoid the doubts and feelings of distrust you find yourself in right now because they likely know you better than you know yourself.
But that doesn't matter. Your roommate makes you feel financially inadequate (by comparison) and your gf makes you feel humiliated because she had a problem your roommate solved and you didn't find out about it until long after the fact. You're thinking that since they hid this from you, what else they're hiding from you. And no amount of reassurance or proof that nothing is going on is going to change that because it's always going to linger in your mind, which is pretty fucking stupid. Your 2 options here are either breakup because you're likely never going to fully trust your gf ever again and it's gonna cause problems down the line, or appreciate the fact that you have people in your life that care enough about you (and know you well enough) that they purposely kept this from you because they didn't want you to feel the way you do now.
Is it possible there is more going on? Maybe. I doubt it. You said he loans out money to lots of people, yourself included. Sounds like it's just something he does.
