If the answer to Q 1 is 'no' I didn't screw around on her we actually were not married, then that would indeed be a discussion to have with the wife. If she says 'nope not interested' you need think long and hot about what your next step is going to be and how you may have to deal with the aftermath of a possible divorce (especially if you really did cheat on your wife $$$$$). Having children may still not be in your wife's life plan.
Now the other side of the coin: I can appreciate that you want to step up as the father. This in and of itself is positive.
Question 2: Where is the mother here and why are the gramma and sister involved?
Did mom do drugs or alcohol while pregnant? There are serious developmental issues that show up later in life and as her father, you will need to be there for all these issues. Has mother completely relinquished custody of the child? Was the child taken away ? Are there chances of mom getting the child back if she cleans up, or gets her crap together? These are very important issues that must be cleared up. You could spend 8 years with your daughter only to have mom suddenly show up and take your daughter from your life if there is any loophole open.
Having children is a massive responsibility; emotionally, financially and physically. Get all your facts and info before making a decision.

i've been in a similar situation, medium distance with my ex being the only one who could drive. i was happy to get the train every weekend, but he'd make excuses and have plans that i couldn't be part of. the same in being super loving and affectionate when we were together, the breaking up because its too hot but end up back together within days. if they can't find the time for you, stop trying. i'm not saying immediately break up but you need to have a real sit down talk about this. it might end and it will be okay but you need to be prepared that this just isnt right
