If this is real, you should encourage her to speak to the DAVA (domestic abuse victim advocate) at her installation. Every branch and the majority of bases has at least one. She also can get financial advice for free through the military as a dependent. Her husband doesn’t have to know she’s using either resource. Just because she reports the abuse, doesn’t mean anything has to happen. She can talk to them and they make a record of what she says, help her get therapy or whatever else she needs, and just like up evidence until she’s ready to do something. She literally has one of the best communities with ample resources.

Yeah, I don't know if I could ever come back from this. He threw that out there as a serious question. He was able to converse about it in a way that showed reasoning, at least to him, and thought. It wasn't a “hey, have you heard about open marriages? Do you think they actually work?” general topic discussions that couples/partners/spouses have.
If my husband asked me about an open marriage in a way that showed or demonstrated it to be something to seriously consider, I couldn't stay married. What your husband wants is a cake and eat it too scenario. He wants the stability and security of his life with you but also the thrill and enjoyment of other partners.
Do what you need to do to give you peace and clarity for the decisions you make. I can only imagine how much of a betrayal this feels like.

Thanks for your advice, my friends said they thought it was manipulative too. I get that I'm young, but I guess I thought because we'd been together so long that it would be different.
