Just be honest and say that you’re dealing w a sudden loss of a family member and don’t want to burden her while she’s busy w exams but definitely let her be there for you if she wishes. My condolences and definitely don’t do what I did when my mom died and that is trying to keep a lot of things bottled up inside. Make sure you give yourself time and space to process the grief.
