  1. Therapy can take years to be particularly effective. How long do you want to wait to see if it pays off?

I think it would be more reassuring to hear that the cheating was a symptom of a rocky marriage and he wanted outside validation. That way, there is some framework for what needs to be fixed within the relationship. But is sounds like it’s literally just him being a cheating dirtbag and you hope he changes.

  2. Uff….I will never understand youngsters who rush into living together, but don't actually communicate properly beforehand.

Good luck, there's a lot more to come.

, we don’t have joint finances.

Then you seriously need discuss finances, because you sound a bit resentful already

  3. Yeah look I would have cut and run too. Advice would be to either distance yourself from your family (if that's what you want) or ask them to rein it in a bit with new people.

  4. Anything you say to him could be interpreted as trying to get back together. Not necessarily will it be, but someone can always twist it that way. You told his mom, so I'd say that's enough.

If you're feeling guilty though, just say it to him. You were in each other's lives for a long time, so you may feel guilty not sending condolences. It's up to you if you feel that saying it to him would make you feel better.

  5. Next time you get ahold of her, have an honest conversation about it. Tell her how you’re feeling, and discuss the possible outcome you both want.

My husband, and I were long distance, when we first fell in love, but we gave that a 6 month limit, to keep things realistic, that was in March 2014, and he moved here to be with me in July of that year.

  6. I was an avid motorcycle rider for ten years. I commuted in Bay Area traffic everyday rain or shine and eventually stopped when my wife got pregnant. I managed to have zero crashes. Motorcycling needs to be taken seriously and your post doesn't seem to indicate he is.

He is a fool to say that motorcycling is safer. There is nothing to back that up. There is no steel frame or airbags around you. Cars don't see you. You're on two wheels where a rubber patch roughly the size of your palm is in contact with the road. And even the slowest motorcycles are fast enough to get you in trouble with a momentary lapse of judgement. The local motorcycle forum I was on had an RIP section for members that had passed away. Not many other hobbies have that.

That said, there are ways to mitigate the risks and before he jumps into it I would encourage him to look into to these.

There are usually some pretty good training courses for beginners that help develop good habits and skills.

There are some books (Twist of the Wrist is one) that discuss riding techniques, common risks, and other beneficial riding strategies.

Good riding gear is expensive. He should budget for at least a good helmet (that fits well), gloves, jacket, and boots. I had a nice full face helmet, full body suit, gloves, boots, and back protector. I think all my gear cost about $1,750-2,000.

New riders should do some research and get a suitable bike for their experience. Some bikes have better ergonomics which make them easier to learn on and control. A would highly recommend against getting a 1,000cc or supersport bike as a starter bike. It's too easy to go way too fast on those. Those bikes can go from 50 to 100mph with just a blip of the throttle.

Also, I don't know the stats now, but when I was riding there was a stat that something like 50% of fatal accidents involved alcohol. I had a policy that I would never get on a bike with a trace of alcohol in me. Not even something like a beer with lunch.

I know I mentioned that I never crashed, but that wasn't without some luck. Motorcycles are fun and fast and it's too easy to get carried away. I'm guilty of seeing a nice straight stretch of road and going full throttle. I dont know any rider who hasn't pushed their limits at some point.
