Medical provider here- she doesn’t have to keep the IUD in for the full 8 years (it’s the Mirena I presume?) She can have it taken out whenever she chooses to. There is nothing currently on the market for protection from sperm aside from condoms. I have a LOT of patients who have severe issues with bleeding while on the Nexplanon. Recently had a patient who wanted it out because she had been bleeding for 2 years straight and it was affecting her marriage. It’s your wife’s body- not yours. Birth control isn’t something to just switch up to see what suits YOUR needs best, it’s whatever fits HER need and body response the best.
