OP, my husband and I are 1000% we don’t want children.
But that doesn’t stop us from talking about our hypothetical baby. I think it’s natural to think about it, so I don’t think it’s wrong you do, but I think your reasoning is misguided.
My husband thinks racially mixed babies are beautiful, so he always talks about a hypothetical baby. I’m a pretty fair Latina and my husband is white. I don’t want to burst his bubble, because I’m pretty sure our baby would look look just him. I never correct him though because it’s his fantasy, and we’ll never find out.
That doesn’t mean he changed his mind. Some people just aren’t meant to be parents. I know with 100% certainty that our marriage would not survive if we had a baby. Even though I know he would make a great father, I never had that longing or instinct to have a child. Neither has he. We both acknowledged and accepted this, because we chose our marriage first.
You have to decide what you want. Can you go through life if you don’t have a baby, or will you regret it? I think the only way you’ll find out is if you’re in therapy with your wife. Maybe even she doesn’t know why she feels this way. The only way you’re going to find out is if you communicate with each other.

Totally normal conversation to have with someone you’re at least decently close to. Your antagonistic replies, on the other hand, are not normal.
There are exceptions, endless examples of devotion by both sexes … but the reality is that men are less likely to adhere to an ill mate than women are. As I said … there are endless examples of men that are exceptions to the trend. All are deserving of respect and admiration which I have for them. The same respect and admiration is due anyone that cares for the health and well being of another.
