You both have problems but it's normal at that age.. but obviously you guys want different things. You can't say the word open relationship to people who want normal relationships.. because that means you are already cheating, eyeing someone, or you want to start fucking other guys. Just because you have a wife doesn’t mean you have a healthy relationship. Especially by your comments, you don’t seem to understand how letting someone talk shit about your partner is wrong and disrespectful, or borderline cheating.

I don't know if it's my internalization or if it's the truth but I always felt like people who date mostly settle with what they have and that's just it. Sort of like “this first person checks these boxes but not these and I'm OK with it.”
With that said, look at it as an opportunity to find someone who checks ALL the boxes. You tried him and it didn't work out so you're trying the next.
Last thing is, don't get hung up on the sex with him. It may have been great but as you stated, you have more needs than sex.
