I agree that it seems we are on different frequencies of understanding. In your great examples though, I can't help but think of the people who exist in a grey area of understanding both sides (wanting/not wanting children) and are ok with either, and I probably exist somewhere in there. For example, I am willing to change and understand her, but she is unwilling to change or understand me, which is almost feels as bad as the idea of giving up disrespectful images (which I probably can).
I guess that is the very definition of compromise, but I also see it as an ability to grow by challenging possibly rigid perspectives that feel mostly defined by fear or insecurity.
