You're an addict too. But your substance abuse problem is triggered when you're in proximity to him.
He will not treat you better. You have no reason to believe he will ever change with 10 years of shitty behavior under his belt. You are aware he's not a good boyfriend and that it is an unhealthy relationship. Those are good first steps of recognition.
That said, I strongly recommend therapy here. You have 10 years' worth of an addiction to this toxic person and toxic situation, and going cold turkey (aka dumping him) isn't going to be easy or recommended for you.
