8. I never know how to quote on mobile, but there is a line in the OP similar to 'she said she agreed but had to ask me first' and that is the shifting of the onus onto OP that doesn't sit well. If the answer is no then the parents (and partner) could solely blame OP, when really what should of happened was a discussion about the pros and cons of a month of dogsitting between OP and their partner before any indication was given to the parents.

   Also, it's April. I don't know what I might want to do for the whole of August! I can totally understand OP not wanting to block out an entire month to a responsibility not of their own.

   I think, ideally, the parents wouldn't have selfishly expected a month's worth of dogsitting, the partner wouldn't have thrown OP under a bus, and OP wouldn't of gotten shouty about it all.

   I also don't know a single dog owner (or parent for that matter) who wasn't amazingly overwhelmed by what it was like to actually have one of their own.
