I don’t know your husband, so I might be completely off, but if he was trying to push people away a lot, he might have thought that no one would ever actually stay so he had a “make them leave before I get attached and they leave” mindset. If that were the case, you sticking around proved to him that you weren’t just going to leave, and you continuing to love him and show him that you do would mean a lot to him.
