TL/DR: GF is mad I want to start using condoms, says I don’t trust her natural method of B/C (rhythm method)
For the year & a half we’ve been together my girlfriend & I have never practiced safe sex (condoms, contraceptives). I am constantly paranoid we are going to get pregnant, so much that anytime she says she’s not feeling good I immediately think, welp this is it. I communicated that I want to start wearing condoms. I realize how fucking dumb I’ve been participating in unsafe sex & want to correct this behavior. Girlfriend is mad at me because she says I don’t trust her ability to monitor her menstrual cycle (rhythm method) & that is her preferred choice of B/C.
I don’t really know how to go about this. This has been a wonderful relationship that I’d like to stay in. But I’m close to losing my cool & telling her pulling out & the rhythm method is a shit method of B/C, that I deserve to feel safe in the bedroom. I’m not asking her to go on a BC that will mess with her hormones. Just that I want to start wearing condoms. Is this a major red flag where I should rethink my future with this person?

It could be that OP is being forceful as a means of mandating a conversation, causing wife to throw up from the resulting stress.
If wife does not want to engage in a conversation whether it be at that time or forever, then that conversation is now the least of their worries.
