I do not have any money (chronically I'll, but live in a country, where I still have a roof over my head and enough food, luckily). If I want to get someone a gift or celebrate a special day I most definitely will find a way to do so! You can buy (barely used) items online – books, movies, furniture, decorative stuff, pretty much anything. Someone who knows you and cares about you and wants to make you feel appreciated will find a way to do that. If I knew what kind of stuff you liked I could get a book on the topic, or handwrite and frame a poem that I think you'd like, of I'd bake a cake or bake cookies, or surprise you with a nice home cooked meal.

He lied to you, he doesn't appreciate you, and he doesn't make you a priority in his life at all.
I would say: Find out and collect prove of his financial situation/him lying about it, without telling him anything yet. Get in touch with a lawyer and only tell him you are divorcing him, when you have everything prepared and in order.
